Perseverance will dig the stone of Mars
Mars is the nearest neighbor of the earth. The Perseverance Rover, sent by NASA, has traveled nearly 3,000 feet south in the last five months since it touched down on Mars.
It is now located in a place known as 'Paver Stone'. This place at the bottom of Jezero is a rocky area of pale color. This time the robotic hand of the rover is preparing to dig to collect the stone samples here.
Scientists are using a rover to make sure that these stones are paved or volcanic. Perseverance will first remove the dust-dirt layer on the paver stone to aid in their research. Then it will test the soil with different pieces of equipment.
According to a BBC report, Perseverance will use its robotic hand-held instruments to test the chemical composition, mineral properties and internal structure of the rock. Collect a stone the size of a finger and send it to the earth in an airless tube. Finally, at the beginning of August, the robot will start digging stones. It will collect about 40 such samples.
NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) will take joint action after the rover's collected samples are returned to Earth.
Perseverance made a successful landing on the 45-kilometer-wide Jezero Crater at the center of Mars in February this year.
Analyzing image data from artificial satellites, scientists believe that at one stage in time the lake may have been a part of the Jezero Basin. If this idea proves to be true, it is believed that ancient microbial life may have existed there.
